Bellevue Hosts First Annual Junior Tennis Tournament
On August 6th,Bellevue hosted its first annual junior tennis tournament attracting competitors from Bellevue’s tennis program and area clubs.
Four rounds of mixed competition from a very talented group of 14 year olds and under yielded several matches that ended in tie breakers.
The final featured Andrew Sullivan from Meadow Brook Golf Club against Eleni Pesiridis from Rahanis Parkwith Andrew Sullivan prevailing in a close match to claim the championship.
Semi-finalist Emma Wiklund was Bellevue’s highest finisher. The perseverance award of the day went to Marie-Elena Gerety who played in her first ever tournament and drew the eventual winner as her opponent, Marie-Elena hung tough through a 10 game pro set that featured some excellent service returns and lobs over the head of Andrew Sullivan sending him scrambling. The tenacity award for the day went to Anthony Ventura who after a first round upset of Jack Callanan forced Emma Wiklund to a come from behind victory in the quarter finals in a grueling 19 game pro set.
All the kids had a great time and the tournament showcased Bellevue’s tennis program and facility.
